Just got back with Elspeth from a weekend with some people, a few of them old friends, who graduated in languages and linguistics from Reading University in 1979. What a pleasant time! We nattered in the pub, looked at old photos, had a wander around the campus and our old Faculty of Letters (looking rather shabby these days, it has to be said) and ate and drank together in the evening. After a night in at the George Hotel we carried on over breakfast this morning.
It was great to get together with old friends and acquaintances, especially Trish and Cheryl whom I hadn't seen in years and Phil and Jonathan whom we do see from time to time. Jonathan came over from Brussels. There was Jill, Gwenda, Lesley, Vron and others. It was a bit weird being shown photos of events you don't recall at all, but we have all aged very gracefully, and overall it was a reminder of what a bond is created in those heady, intense and enjoyable university days. Lindsay and Sam organised the whole thing with some help and we've agreed to get together in another five years.
