I picked up this idea from Vincent Everett who happened to mention it on the TES forum. Have you seen the panel game Would I lie to you? I got my top set Y10's to prepare for homework three short accounts in French, only one of which was true. I asked them to come up with curious, amusing or just interesting stories. We played the game today with two panels of three. We changed panels half way through the lesson.
So, one person on the panel tells their brief story. The other panel has to decide if it is true or false. They can ask questions to probe the story-teller. I chipped in with this to help things along. You get points for guessing correctly if the story is true or false. Very good for practising perfect tense, by the way. Twelve students got to talk, but you can involve the audience by asking them to vote true or false.
A good one was Rob who recounted how his guinea-pig died and he fed it to his cat who ate it, was subsequently ill and they had to go to the vet's. Rob had to confess that he had fed the dead guinea-pig to the cat.
Another one was the boy who gave his hamster to a cousin to look after. The hamster escaped and hid in a shoe. When the cousin put on the aforementioned shoe he squashed the hamster to death.
The first story was false, the second one true.
Thanks, Vincent. This is a very good language game for more able students.
