I finally got round to doing a lesson with the Easispeak USB microphones today with my Y8 class. I just got them to read aloud a passage I had practised with them. One microphone between two with an instruction sheet and a passage to read. After group repetition they recorded their voices and listend back, either directly from the microphone's headphone socket, or from the computer with Audacity. They could then save their recordings in their My Documents folder.
Very basic really, but the class enjoyed the lesson more than usual and got a good deal of reading aloud done. Some went on the read some café dialogues from the text book.
The EasiSpeak mikes worked well and the sound quality was good. I'll have another go with the mikes in a few weeks. Important to keep the idea fresh, I think.

Hello Mike
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed using Easi-speak micros with classes. I have found it harder to use when I need to delete - can be fiddly to find out how to do certain actions. Some lower ability classes have responded very well to it and tried to talk far more (in French!) than usual! They have also loved using a microphone and Audacity - they turned out to know far more than me about recording and they know how to add more layers and music and voice alteration... I think it could be very motivating too.
Regards
Valerie
