Mark Purves who does the souffler blog has made a good video on how to use macros in Word to exploit bilingual texts.

A macro is a way of recording a series of steps in Word whcih can then be repeated with a sigle click. I had never heard of these before, but it looks like quite a nifty way of creating gapfill texts, for example. You can record macros which will remove vowels, pronouns, articles etc from a text.
Thanks very much to Mark. I shall have a look at this.
....
OK - I've had a go and could not get the removed vowels to be replaced with underlinings. Hmm. I'll have to explore further. It seems fiddly at first, but I imagine it's fine when you've got used to it.
