Tom Bennett is well known to Twitter and TES users. He also organised the recent ResearchEd conference at Dulwich College in London. He is a "guru" on the subject of behaviour management. He has done a series of short videos about the issue for the TES. Each video of 3-4 minutes deals with an aspect of class control such as seating plans, dealing with low level disruption, greeting a class and so on. there's no rocket science here, Tom just talks lots of common sense which young teachers would do well to listen to.

I liked the way he deals with the worry expressed by teachers that they lack authority because they are short, have a weak voice, are the wrong gender etc. He stresses that pupils judge us on our actions, not our image, and that we need to see beyond our self-image and realise that we are the authority figure in the room.
Just to mention that there is no one single way to get children to behave well and learn successfully, but Tom's advice is an excellent starting point.
